| Baby's now the size of a head of cabbage! |
Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keep; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision--which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face."
Can I just say that I am very, very grateful that I am not normally a diabetic? I have been on my gestational diabetes diet for almost a week and quickly came to realize that I am not one who has EVER had to watch what she eats. Now I am counting carbs, limiting portion sizes, and eating more frequently throughout the day than ever before. But, it is working. I've been testing my blood sugar levels 4-6 times a day and they have all fallen within the appropriate range since I started the diet.
I went back for my last monthly doctor's appointment today since I go every other week for the next stretch. He was very positive after looking over my blood sugar log. He told me that as long as the numbers continue to fall in range, there wouldn't be any further complications from the diabetes. With this piece of good news, I will gladly continue pricking my fingers and counting my carbs.
You, sweet baby, are still healthy and happy. My stomach continues to expand, my weight continues to increase, my blood pressure is normal, and your heartbeat is regular and strong. As you grow, you have found a new favorite position: wedged under my right rib cage.
