Hogs n' Dogs and Tulips

We had a busy Saturday yesterday. Or at least busy for us. We started it off by going to our ward's annual hogs n' dogs activity. Basically they all get together for hot dogs and the kids can decorate their bikes (hogs) and ride them around. It was fun and we have a lot of kids in our ward! Unfortunately Leila was needing a nap so we didn't get to stay too long.

Tantrum

After nap time was over, we loaded everything up and made our way to Thanksgiving Point for their annual Tulip Festival. We happened to arrive when half of Utah County was also coming/going but once we got into the gardens, we didn't notice the crowds. The massive gardens were filled with colorful flowers and the weather was perfect! This was where my dad took my bridal pictures four years ago so it was fun to come back.

Leila at 18 Months

My baby is not such a baby anymore! Leila turned 18 months this last week and I can hardly believe it! We took her to her first day of nursery at church today. When we walked in, I could tell the leaders got a little apprehensive that they were going to have a newbie. Their apprehension was eased pretty quickly when she promptly wanted to get down and go play with a ball. She could have cared less whether I was there or not!

Here are some things she's up to these days:

Her constant babbling is turning more conversation-like. She can say "Mama," "Dada," "Kee kee" for kitty, "Me Mo" for Elmo, "Babby" for Abby (also from Sesame Street), "Ga gee" for doggy, "Go go", "Baby," "Beekey" for binky, and "Yay."
She is proficient at making many animal sounds, including: dog (oof oof), cat (meow meow), duck (bawk bawk), monkey (ooo ooo), horse (neigh complete with head shake), cow (moo), snake (ssssssss), elephant (lip raspberry), sheep (baa), and pig (wee wee).
She LOVES being outside! We are so glad the weather is finally starting to get nice again. She'll go stand by our back door and say "go go go go go" until I take her out.
She also still loves watching Sesame Street. She's taken to bringing us the TV remote and saying "Me mo" and "Babby" trying to get us to turn it on.
She still usually gets two naps in during the day, but the second one has been becoming more and more sporadic lately and completely depends on how well she slept the previous night.
She gives the sweetest hugs, when she wants to. She also usually gives kisses by leaning her head forward so that you can kiss her forehead. Needless to say, this causes some confusion when she "gives kisses" to people at church. She saves her real kisses for her stuffed animals.
She can throw quite the tempter tantrums: on the floor kicking and screaming tantrums.
She is quite independent. She won't let me feed her hardly anything. She always has to do it herself. Same goes for brushing her hair and teeth.
She will point to her head, mouth, nose, teeth, tongue, eyes, ears, fingers, and toes when asked.
When asked how old she is, she will hold up one finger and then promptly start clapping her herself.
She is super friendly. She has zero stranger anxiety and is pretty much willing to go to anyone. She is always making new friends and church--kid and grown-up alike!

She is a non-stop bundle of energy! If I didn't make her stop for naps, I'm not sure she would ever stop voluntarily. She is always getting into cupboards and drawers, tackling the kitty, running aimlessly around the house, bringing me toys for her to fetch, dancing to any music she hears. And, most importantly, she is the joy in my life when everything else seems to be against me.

She weighs 24.47 lbs. (68.95 percentile)
She is 31.75 inches tall (36.06 percentile)
She has a 19 inch head circumference (90.92 percentile)

Easter 2013

Easter had a much more personal meaning to my family this year. As such, it was a bittersweet holiday--as I'm sure all will be for quite some time. We dyed eggs, did some yard work, ate good food, had an Easter egg hunt, and just enjoyed each other's company (and some glorious sunshine).
