Here's what she's been up to lately:
- Her vocabulary has exploded in just the last 2 months and now she is constantly mimicking and babbling. She gets really excited when she's talking to someone and she pretty much only has one volume: loud.
- Her new favorite "trick" is to point out what colors are around her. She knows blue, red, pink, orange, white, brown, purple, and green.
- She is still very much a go-er and has been since she learned to crawl. This girl just doesn't stop! Even when she's watching a show, she ends up wandering all around the room. Unfortunately this means she is not much of a snuggler but this makes the moments she is that much more precious.
- She has mastered self-play and can entertain herself for hours with very little actual interaction from me. I'll find her reading books, playing with her animals, climbing into cupboards, jumping, spinning, dancing, and all sorts of other activities. Sometimes I'd really like to know what's going on in her brain!!
- She has a healthy appetite, for certain foods. She LOVES fruit, bread, and scrambled eggs. She's still not a big fan of meat though. She also has quite the sweet tooth and can spot cakes and cookies from anywhere in the room.
Dearest Leila,
What a year! I can't believe you are already 2. We continue to be a very vacation oriented family. Since last year you've been to Disneyland twice, visited your great-grandparents in Arizona, went to Hawaii with the Ziebarths, visited every state park in Utah, and went to Yellowstone and Oakland. Other than sleeping a lot less than normal, you really are a great little traveler.
In addition to vacations we also moved into our first house, said a very hard goodbye to your Grandpa Larsen, and sent your Uncle Jared on his mission. For obvious reasons, this has been a very tough year for me. But you, my responsibility to you as your mother, and my love for you as my daughter are what has kept me going, moving forward, and being strong. It has been the best medicine I could have asked for. I am grateful I have you in my life, even when you make me want to pull my hair out.
I love that I am able to be with you during the day and watch as you continue to figure out the world around you. You are an inquisitive little girl and I hope you always will be. I hope that you always desire to learn about the world around you and figure out your place in it. You are a special little girl and you deserve everything this world has to offer you. So hold on to your boundless energy and I'll try to keep up with you as we grow together over this next year.

Funny story about her doctor's visit this morning. She was all caught up on her immunizations but I asked for them to give her a flu shot. And she did great. No tears, no crying, barely tensed up at all. But then when I had to put on her pants and cover up her Bugs Bunny band-aid? Full blown meltdown! And she kept pawing at her leg (where the band-aid was) and saying "bunny, bunny" in such a sad little voice. Such a two-year old!!
